Sweating Oats in the Stack
Farmers warn grain must dry or cure in the shock before stacking. Oats in particular sweat in the stack if too dry, gaining dampness in six to ten days which improves grain quality but can cause heat and musty odor if stacked before full cure. Horses will avoid such oats unless starving. price note: Fairfield Tribune and Iowa Homestead offer one year for $1 outside Jefferson County, 25c extra.
