Miller Prepares For Homecoming Festivities
Miller high school readies a homecoming Friday with a fore eight parade bonfire and pep meeting on Main street. After a film at a theater and a 11:50 a m parade including students clubs and local businesses, four carnival queen candidates ride in the march. The day features a Miller Rustics versus De Smet football game and an evening program with a carnival bakery dance culminating in the queen announcement at about 9pm.

Fifty friends surprised Floyd Calkins at his St. Lawrence home for his birthday. The oldest remaining pioneer in the area, he has lived in St. Lawrence since the eighties. Hostesses Mable Mageess and Eva Writs helped arrange the event as Mrs. Calkins could not return from North Dakota.

Road Near Clark Is Being Rebuilt
Dowd brothers of Clark win contract to rebuild No. 212 from four and a half miles west of Clark to Codington county line. A. L. Hyde oversees as engineer, Frank Groes foreman, J. D. Chance Clark county roads superintendent. Federal funds cover the project with county unemployed performing the labor. After grading and travel, the highway will be oil surfaced and cross streets leveled and graveled to match. The completed oiling will improve the business district appearance.

Promissory Note Case Settles With Verdict in Sioux Falls
In Sioux Falls court Judge L. Fleeger directed a verdict for T. Haugen against A B Kilness and Osut Hegge of Dell Rapids for 952.03 after a brief trial on a promissory note. The case featured a 12-man jury and no cross examination. The note and alleged extension were argued, but the judge ruled a written cannot be bound by oral agreement.
