Greater Speed For Cars Seen Center Ridged Highways To Insure Safety
New York May 1 Higher automobile speeds with center ridged highways to increase safety are forecast by Maxwell Halsey traffic engineer of the National Bureau of Casualty and Surety Underwriters. He states that faster speeds are common among inexpensive cars and that highway design must encourage correct driving through raised center strips and better intersection layouts. He argues for three and four lane highways with smooth outside lanes and rough inner lanes to steer traffic outward and reduce head on collisions.
