Aberdeen May 7 Unfavorable weather has slowed crop progress in northern South Dakota per a Milwaukee railroad survey. Despite a mild winter and spring, germination of late planted grain is largely at a standstill, surface moisture is needed, and early seeded grain is being harvested. Corn planting rises about 244600 acres, oats and barley up 127129, winter and spring wheat down about 60000 acres, with forage crops up about 5 percent.

Alpena youths escape injury in school tour car rollover
Six seventh and eighth graders on an industrial tour near Alpena escaped without a scratch when their car tipped onto its side en route to Armour packing plant. Rex L.
