Harvest grain on test plots at Martin Anderson farm Woonsocket

Wheat and barley test plots planted last April on the Martin Anderson farm west of Woonsocket have been harvested and will be threshed at state college laboratories. Eleven wheat and six barley varieties were grown under extension service supervision to compare yields. Late maturing grains outperformed early ones due to early-season drought. full results to be released later by the county agents office.

Pioneer Redfield Physician Leaves for Evanston Home

Dr. J. K. Kumewsky and Mrs. Kumewsky depart Redfield for Evanston Illinois to live with daughter Mrs. Eena Spangler. He served 57 years as a Spink County physician, 55 in Redfield, was the first Superintendent of the state school for the feebleminded, and active in Masonic circles. Mrs Kumewsky belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star as a charter member.

Christian Anderson of Redfield Dies Final Rites Friday

Christian Anderson longtime Redfield resident died at his home after an illness. He was active in community service and a Red Cross committee member. Funeral services are planned Friday at 2 30 p m at the Congregational church with Rev J B Robinson officiating. The body remains at Williamson funeral home.

Refugee Committee Invited To Meet At White House

Washington diplomats said President Roosevelt invited officers of the intergovernmental refugee committee to meet in the White House the first week in September to discuss homes for central European refugees. The committee, formed at a July 7 1938 conference in Evian, has focused on Jewish emigration from Germany. A probable date was September 4.

Fire Threatens Thousand Acres in Yellowstone Park

Wind driven forest fire in Yellowstone National Park has burned about 2,500 acres in the Mirror Plateau area near White Lake. Five hundred firefighters sought to contain 1,000 acres before a fresh wind sparked spot fires and spread the blaze along ridges beyond established lines. Chief Ranger Francis LaNoue surveyed the area by air and reported rapid growth of the fire zone.
