Faulk County Farmers Report 1928 Extensions Achievements

Faulkton Jan 19. County Agent Leo Mossing reports 1928 gains from Faulk county farmers working with the extension service. Benefits include larger litters from cleaned hog lot rotation, 300 bushels of Marquis and 120 bushels of Kota wheat seed, 250 farmers growing pure seed wheat, and 34 farmers testing corn varieties. Baby beef club members earned $2,000.27 for calves. Shelterbelt planting plans are underway with high standards set for spring planting.

Potter county farmer filed a thresher’s lien for threshing done by his combine for another farmer. A farm implement company with a mortgage filed suit, contending thresher’s lien covers only threshing, while the combine’s work includes harvesting and threshing. Welsh and Sylvester Barret now own the pool hall there. The men bought the establishment from William Gaughran Jr. Possession was given yesterday. The deed was delivered this week. Roy Flyger of Parker sold 500 head of sheep for 5200, with 1700 head shipped from western ranges for marketing.

Miner County Extension Plans For 1929 Projects

Miner County-wide 4-H and extension program aims to emphasize club work in 1929 with updated goals. Plans include hog sanitation, corn and potato improvement, shelterbelt planting, weed eradication, shrubbery demonstrations, and new farm demonstrations under County Agent S. W. Jones. Hoven Cow Testing Association Begins Operations

Hoven South Dakota January 19 Special All equipment has been purchased by the newly formed Hoven Cow Testing association. John Weitel of Hoven will conduct testing. The plan, termed mail order cow testing, weighs and tests milk from each cow monthly for a year and mails samples to the tester who also keeps herd records.

Potter County Deaths Decrease and Births Hold Steady

Potter County records show a steady birth count with 147 births in the past year, while deaths rose to 26 and marriages increased to 64. Of deaths, eight were infants under three, and twenty one were over 68. Most marriages involved Potter County residents, with notable age gaps among a few couples.

One Hog Produces 2260 Percent Profit in Groton

Randall Esii of Groton reports a sow yielding 12 pigs with all fat. nine pigs and the sow were sold, bringing in funds for feed. He expects to make one third as much from feeder pigs as from the original sow and her litter.
