Wahabi Raiders Ambush Yankee Missionaries in Irak

Chicago diplomat Charles R. Crane and American missionary Henry A. Bilkert were ambushed near Zubeir in Irak while traveling from Basra to Koweit. Bilkert was mortally wounded, Crane escaped with minor injuries as Wahabi tribesmen pursued the fleeing cars. The attack follows tensions along the British mandated frontier and amid efforts to settle border disputes with Great Britain and Irak.
