Cavour School Reopens September Ninth Sets Staff

Sept 9 marks the reopening of Cavour school following a Friday board meeting. The grade school faculty remains led by Mrs. Rona Harbaugh in seventh and eighth grades and Miss Nora Kelly in the lower grades. Three new high school teachers join: Supt. George Van Derbns, Coach Gene McGinty of Huron, and Miss Helen Lorenz of Landgow N. DB. as commercial, English and music teacher.

Vacation Bible School Opens at Doland Methodist Church

Under Miss Ruth Sherwood supervision the Vacation Bible School began Monday at Doland Methodist Church with 70 children enrolled. The teaching staff includes Rev and Mrs V W Selix, Mrs Olive Doty, Mrs Lila Culver, and Lucile Gross directing activities.

Bonilla Teacher Accepts Position in Alpena Michigan

Miss Ednager resigned as primary teacher at Bonilla school to take a teaching post in Alpena Michigan. She plans to specialize in crippled children and recently completed six weeks of summer school at Ypsilanti Michigan, the first South Dakotan enrolled there.

Leaves for Band Camp in South Dakota

Erich Jungemann left Monday for St Lawrence to instruct halon twirling at the annual South Dakota Band Camp this week. Edward Kabre and Marvin Seheibe left Monday for Stdams Minnesota where they will be employed. Mr and Mrs Fred Wahlert and Mr and Mrs Roy White returned Saturday evening from a visit with relatives in Extra Ia. Mr and Mrs Lee Willse of Waterloo visited the Wahlert home on Sunday.

School grounds beautified by county aid and WPA workers

In Ramsey No 3 and 31 McCook rural schools, grounds have been beautified since 1938 with plans from State College foresters and county agents. WPA labor, trees funded by districts, and local volunteers supported planting, maintenance, and hoeing bees. The Ladies Aid meets at Frankfort Methodist Church with lunch served by Mrs Jnnes and helpers.

Funeral Rites at Wolsey for Mrs G H Mullins

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church for Mrs. G. H. Mullins. The Rev. Martin Hyink of Castlewood, a nephew, conducted the services. Mrs. Mullins died Monday after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband, one son, two daughters and two sisters.

Fifty youths were entertained Sunday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs August Kohlmeyer. Outdoor games followed by a lunch prepared by Cordula and Della Kohlmeyer with assistance from Raymond Scheibe.

Busy Bee Sewing Club Plans Fall Bazaar

The Busy Bee Sewing Club met at Mrs. Victor Dahlin's home with Mrs. Tilda Christenson presiding. Plans were laid for the annual fall bazaar and lunch was served to 35 members and guests by the hostesses, Mrs. Dahlin and her daughter Mrs. Orville Tollefson.

Lutheran Church At Miller Rededicated

A large number of parishioners attended the rededication services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller last Sunday. The morning sermon was delivered by Rev. A. L. Keller of Redfield. Ladies Aid served dinner at noon and an informal program followed. Services were directed by Rev. M. L. Bomhoff, the church pastor.

Three Injured In Doland Car Accident

In Doland area ten miles southeast of town Wayne Stoller Lorraine Baggesgard and Ruth Bloom were injured when their car overturned late Thursday. Bloom was driving, the car landed on its roof with wheels in the air. Stoller and Baggesgard were thrown clear. Bloom was pinned inside. Homer Krentz freed her after aid arrived from the Krentz farm. Stoller suffered head injuries while Bloom had numerous cuts and bruises. Baggesgard escaped with minor bruises.

GOP Finances Promised to be Above Board by Martens

Pierre August 21 The Republican state central committee vowed to publish every penny of receipts and expenditures after a 250-member meeting. Chairman Glenn W Martens urged rapid reporting of any bribery or corruption tips with affidavits. Roosevelt received eight million dollars in federal appropriations for use before the election as party leaders named a watchdog finance panel including Attorney General Leo Temmey and others.

Visitors from Wolsey stayed with friends and relatives for several days. They were accompanied home by Mr. and Mrs. Everett Christopherson, adding a courteous closing to their northern journey.

Funeral Rites Held For James McDermid

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Methodist Church for James McDermid 73 early Hand County settler since 1893 who died after a short illness. Survived by wife three daughters four sisters one brother and four grandchildren. Pallbearers listed including Web Davis Scott Morris and Henry Klink.
