School district apportionment increased by five cents

Pierre August 21 Reduced population boosted per pupil state aid to school districts by five cents. Supt J F Hines announced a $775,600 legislative appropriation will amount to about $4.16 per child when checks go out October 1. Last year it was $4.11.

North Dakota hunters receive a 21 day upland game birds season starting October 1 with sunrise to sunset shooting. Southwest counties may bag seven daily birds including Hungarian partridges and Chinese ringneck pheasants. five partridges and two pheasants. Southeast counties allow ten daily birds with five Chinese pheasants and five Hungarian partridges. Torngning counties set ten per day with five partridges and five pheasants or grouse, not more than three of either species. Only one hen pheasant may be taken and one day’s bag may be in possession.

First Children Refugees Arrive From Bombarded England

NEW YORK Aug 4 The weather beaten British liner Sanat ra docked today bringing to safety from bombarded England the first group of children transported through American efforts. They cheered the Statue of Liberty as they sought the homes for the duration. Eighty four were orphans from Hoover Clay plant workers at Perivale London traveling to hosts in the United States. The girls arrived under sponsorship of the Boston Transcript. A 15 year old said Hitler can’t get to England and urged Americans to see their defenses.

Esmond Man Sentenced For Drunken Driving

Esmond man Floyd W. Aughenbaugh was sentenced in S.D. De Smet to 30 days in jail with costs but the sentence was suspended.
