Set Up Committee To Work With SDEA On Defense Plans

A committee to coordinate between the South Dakota Education Association and agencies on defense activities was named by SDEA president A. E. Mead. C. A. Beaver of Yankton was named chairman, with M. E. Steele of Northern Teachers College Aberdeen, James F. Slocum Colman, G. Williams of Hapelss, Ipswich Superintendent Fred Dehnert, Sioux Falls teacher June Smith, and others named to represent all divisions of education statewide. The group will liaise with local, state, and national organizations to preserve democracy and American heritage amid defense efforts.

Truck Driver In Fatal Collision Is Absolved Of Blame

Albert Lea, Aug 22 — Harry Gorham of Neosho Mo was absolved by a coroner's jury last night after his truck collided head on with a passenger car killing four people near here. The jury found no criminal negligence by Gorham whose truck struck as the car attempted to pass two large trucks. Victims were Mr and Mrs Frank Goette and Mr and Mrs Ernest Eifers of Bricelyn about 20 miles southeast.

Dean H G Titt, Huron College Dean, Dies After Heart Attack

Dean H G Titt, dean of Huron College since 1986 and long time faculty member, died suddenly at his home after a heart attack. He collapsed on his porch around 7:30 p.m. while outdoors after dinner. Survived by his wife Alberta and four children Frances Edwin Dorothy Elsie, he held degrees from Washburn and Michigan and taught at Kingfisher, Yankton, Fairmont and Huron. He was active in civic affairs, served as Presbyterian elder, Rotary president, and held various academic roles, with a Doctor of Laws from Washburn in 1939.

John B. Thomason 87 famed wildlife authority and writer under the pen name Ozark Ripley died at his home in Chattanooga Tennessee after a six month illness. He was an expert on fly and bait casting and known as a professional bird dog trainer.
