The county annual report for the year ending Sept 1 shows a large increase in patients at the infirmary. There were 96 patients split 77 men and 19 women on Sept 1, up from 73 the prior year. During the year 59 men and 22 women were discharged, 19 men and 7 women died, one patient was sent to the State institution, and conditions included illnesses, old age, blindness, and memory loss among others.

Relatives of Mrs Mary French demand a autopsy after she was found dead in the rear of her husband s saloon. They claim she was dead five hours before the death was reported and say the husband was in the house the entire time. Dr French was asked to perform the autopsy.
Local Republicans from Elyria and Lorain will join Cleveland colleagues for the opening state campaign in Warren this Saturday. About fifteen Elyria Republicans have signaled attendance and more are expected from Lorain. The party faithful will depart Elyria at 9:13 a.m., then travel to Cleveland and proceed to Warren. Separately, five tramps were arrested this afternoon and jailed, with hearings set for morning and identification to follow.
A warning about a diamond ring scam describes conmen offering a supposedly valuable ring for a small price. The ring is examined while a partner feigns high confidence, then the victim is urged to buy before a jeweler verifies it as paste worth pennies.
A man about fifty, five feet ten inches tall and weighing 190 pounds, was found unconscious in woods south of Lorain by a passer-by. He died at Lorain hospital after an autopsy is planned by the coroner. Authorities do not believe foul play or suicide occurred and suspect calcium poisoning as a possible cause.
A county level Sunday School meeting was held yesterday at the Baptist church with Elyria township association in charge. Dr Clark of Columbus urged trained teachers and a county organization with monthly meetings to improve instruction and attendance in Sunday schools. Miss Ewalt of Columbus spoke on training methods and increasing junior department participation. A second session at the Congregational church featured Dr Clark and Miss Ewalt addressing further on effective teaching and engagement.
The board of public service received a single bid for cast iron pipe and fittings for the Lodi street water main. UK Cast from Pipe and Foundry Co submitted a bid of 22 a ton for 400 feet of pipe and two to three quarters cents per pound of fittings. The board adopted a resolution to notify the Cleveland and Southwestern Traction Co of potential damage to water lines from electrolysis and to task the water works superintendent with issuing a junction caution if advisable. The city engineer was instructed to investigate the water course on Middle Avenue and report. The waterworks department was asked to estimate the cost of laying water mains if the Danny field allotment is approved.
Officials from Gracecourt board observe an unattended factory yard steam car that jerks to life. Johnson Bracker Swart Bowman and Dr Walker leap aboard to stop it on Cedar Street. The vehicle races toward Broad Street and East Avenue, Dr Walker scalded when a safety valve vents steam, but the car slows and is pulled back toward the city.

His wife followed to Justice Lawrence’s court with their child as warrants were served for seven men. Thomas OC Dawson of Fors Fur nace narrowly escaped death when a load of baled straw broke loose while he rode atop the pile toward town. He fell under the load and broke his right leg but managed to crawl free before the wheels passed. He was taken home by locals and a physician tended him. The One, Twenty third Ohio Volunteer Infantry held its thirty ninth annual reunion in Norwalk with Elyria members in attendance. Addresses were given by several ministers and officers. A large button featuring photos of Colonelyn T Watson and Lt Col Horace Kellogg was presented to each member. The reunion will be held at Fostoria. Martin Adama was elected president with L J Keller, and Dr BR N McCosnell in officer roles.
Ho Johnson Gates Street appeared before Mayor Folger Wednesday charged with disorderly conduct. He had disappeared from home, returned from Cleveland, and was found looking into windows. He was locked up, considered slightly demented, and Mayor Folger sent him home to his family. He is twenty eight years old. The Kosyska Nut and Bolt Co opens a new plant on Oct 16. machinery to be installed next week, with output of 170000 pieces daily. Koeyska’s machine will turn out 40000 pins daily.
Lorain on September 28 a Jewish peddler applying for a license in the mayor's office fell ill and was rushed to a hospital. Two surgeons spent the night trying to save him as doctors suspected death would come. By noon Michael Silverman of Cleveland was reported much better and able to call his name, though doctors noted his system was heavily poisoned by nicotine.
County and city officials and citizens push for a county work house to reform prisoner earnings and reduce costs. Inquiry into construction and maintenance shows it may not be self supporting now. Skeptics fear high expense while proponents say funds from surrounding counties and fines could offset costs. The measure may be sent to county commissioners after cost statistics are refined.
Mrs Catherine Kaiser, 74, an inmate at the county infirmary, died Saturday morning after a fall or possible self harm. Husband Anton Kaiser, a former inmate, was sent there decades ago for poisoning a cow. The couple, who settled in Ridgeville after entering in 1903, faced years of hardship as Mrs Kaiser reportedly showed signs of unbalance. The incident occurred on the second floor after breakfast. her wrist was broken and death resulted from the shock. Provisions will arrange for burial.
Patients from Lorain county were transferred to the Mesalloc station. Reverend Dawson spoke at Elyru during the North Ohio conference service in Tiffin. Bishop Craneton of Washington, DC presided. a commission to redraw the North and East Ohio conference boundary will be discussed Friday.
