Judge Lynch and the History of Lynching in the United States
The article argues that while lynchings seem more frequent today, statistics show a decline over the past decade. It cites figures from 1881 to 1900, noting 286 in 1893 and 115 in 1900, with Ohio reporting 13 since 1885 versus higher totals in Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana. It clarifies lynching is not limited to African Americans and lists the demographic breakdown of 2,516 victims including races and genders.
