Supreme court sustains Longworth act in ballot amendments
The supreme court on Tuesday sustained the Longworth act, allowing constitutional amendments endorsed by party conventions to appear on the ballot and be counted on straight tickets. It could carry two or three amendments, including repealing double liability for stockholders, ensuring each county has a state house representative, and possibly granting the governor veto power. Republicans and prohibitionists back the changes while Democrats oppose. Tom L Jolson, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, supports the amendments on the stump. The joint result may carry the amendments.
