School board hires truant officer and buys encyclopedia

At a Monday meeting the school board employed Henry Krohn as truant officer for four months at 30 dollars monthly. The board authorized purchasing the New International Encyclopedia in installments. Comings will buy supplementary readers to replace worn ones. A vacant Jefferson street room will house the Weetside kindergarten until needed for regular use. Fred H Ellis, also known as Fred H Lewis, was adjudged insane and ordered to Toledo State hospital. A guardian is sought for Mary A Cary, alleged incompetent of Wiyrla. The case will be heard October 10, 1903.

Elks Help Drifters Club With Dance Night Prep

An invited crowd gathered on short notice to spruce the Elk’s club floor for the Drifter’s club dance scheduled Thursday night. A very enjoyable evening was spent by all. Miss Lydia Wick and John J Hoffman, formerly of Lorain and now employed here, will be married this week.

Keystone placer mine to renew washing work this week

A Telluride dispatch in the Mining Record reports that washing gravel at the Keystone mine will resume this week and continue until water runs out. The Keystone stockholders re-elected the board. C M Coleman retires as secretary treasurer and GM but remains a major holder. Officers Gaiford, Thomas, and Hill are named with plans for new capital and upgraded equipment to start next spring.

Occupied land dispute over railroad construction in Ridgeville township

Mionie Chambers files in common pleas court alleging ownership of a Ridgeville farm along the C and SW tracks. She claims the railroad began grading and erecting a new track within five hundred feet of her land on October 4 and seeks an injunction after objecting. Attorney D J Nye represents her. names William C Leedale and Mary Jarvis appear in the filing.

High School to Play Football Postponed Game

The postponed football game between the local high school and Lorain students will be played in Flyria on Wednesday afternoon. Hilyria, coming off a six point win against Baldwin University, has been practicing hard and aims to challenge Lorain's team.

Arrest in Fostoria On Nonsupport Case Details

Taken to Fostoria Clinton street was arrested on Monday by Officer Whitney for non support of his family now in destitute condition. He was taken back to that place by Sheriff Strauss on whose advice the arrest was made.

Ohio Library Association session in Elyria

Librarians from across the state gather in Elyria for the annual Ohio Library Association session. About 100 attendees are expected. The opening reception is hosted by the Elyria Public Library trustees and their wives. Dr. Charles F Thwing will not attend. W H Brett of the Cleveland Public Library will substitute. The program runs Wednesday and Thursday.

In West Ridge families harvest progress with corn nearly gathered and wheat largely in. Amherst township Mr Lchrader’s group brought loud band music Sunday, prompting relief once it ceased. Man Struck by Train At Sheffield Injured

George Platt of Pittsburg was hit by a B and C train at Sheffield on Sunday morning. He was thrown about twenty feet and severely hurt. He arrived at the scene Monday and was taken to the infirmary for treatment, with no local friends.
