The Cleveland Press reports March 16 that Cox’s canal bill is his favored measure tied to special rewards for services. He has pushed it vigorously though opposed by some, and passage is seen as crucial to his season.
The United Mine Workers of Amar don vote two to one to accept a six percent wage cut and avoid a strike. This clears the way for operators to proceed and supports a busy season for iron and steel mills in Elyria Lorain and surrounding districts. Ohio led with a four to one anti strike vote while demand and prices rise for steel and iron products.
