Government and developers face mounting strain as housing plans move ahead. Officials outline steps to streamline approvals while addressing union concerns and funding gaps threatening the project timeline.
The Board of Public Services plans to lease their half-interest in the opera house for ninety nine years at 250 per year after the abolition of the spring erection. A city vote on acquiring the township half will determine if the lease is void and the city owns the whole property. The township and board value the property at 26000, with 12500 payable to the township if the city buys them out and 6000 credit for use of one room in perpetuity, creating a city debt of 7600 to be paid in ten years. Improvements include a fire department wing and moving city offices into the building.
On Friday morning a drive wheel broke on the Bant O engine 31 causing a derailment just north of Leke avenue crossing. The engine was hurled from the track, rolling a distance on the ties before stopping. Passengers were shaken, with some bruised, but none seriously hurt. Traffic was halted briefly while repairs were made.
Police court Friday morning heard John Lavin and J Smith sued five dollars and costs each for intoxication. Snodies will be served from 4:30 pm to 2 am at the City Restaurant.

A verdict was rendered in the common pleas in favor of plaintiff Dimook against a fire insurance company for 703 dollars 12 cents. The insurer had resisted payment claiming the plaintiff caused the home fire in Wellington. The case, decided Thursday, reflects dispute over causation and liability in the property loss.
Rev. R. A. Sidley, a longtime Cleveland diocese priest linked to Elyria and Sandusky, died Thursday in Sandusky where he served 41 years. He came to Sandusky in 1865 and later acted as chaplain at the federal prison during the Civil War era. Sidley advised and aided Confederate officers held on Johnson’s Island and led Holy Angels parish in Elyria before moving to Gundusky. A respected elder in the community, he was known for generosity and care for the needy.

Downing H. Young aged eighty seven, longtime Huron county lawyer, insurance agent, and influential Republican, died Wednesday in New Haven. Born 1816 in Lynchburg Virginia to Scotch Irish parents, he was father of Hon. S. M. Young of Norwalk and Dr. D. H. Young of Wakeman. Charlotte Danity was granted a divorce from William Danitz Friday morning by Judge Kohler on grounds of gross neglect of duty.
An official of a major mercantile agency estimates about 7,000 U.S. millionaires, with roughly 1,000 in New York City, in a discussion on wealth totals and secrecy. The Red Book lists around 15,000 names worth $300,000 or more, though exact totals are uncertain due to deliberate concealment and tax avoidance.

Herbert W Hall a Wellington merchant dies Thursday evening at age forty five. Longtime partner in Bowlby and Hall groceries he was active in town affairs. He leaves a wife and three children. Funeral arrangements not announced.
