Oberlin grants gas franchise to Oberlin Gas and Electric

The Oberlin council approves a franchise for the Oberlin Gas and Electric Company to supply natural gas in Oberlin for ten years at a stated rate. The ordinance reduces artificial gas price from $1.60 to $1.00, as stated by manager Mr. Beckwith. Death of Richard Walkden Elyria farmer Richard Walkden, a prominent farmer from Lorain County, died at his Cleveland Street home Monday at age seventy four. He recently moved from Eaton Township. He leaves a large family. Funeral arrangements not yet made. Burial near Columbia Center.

Strike Deceived by Moulders Union at Fox Furnace

Moulders at Fox Furnace Co. were laid off two weeks ago and a strike bid was reported but workers returned to their jobs. Management then said foundry would run as an annex shop and no longer on a time basis, leading to a union strike against the firm with union members barred from employment. Workers allege the layoff aimed to sideline the union.

Narrow Escape of Telegraph Employee on Moving Train

Benninger, an extra night operator for Western Union, narrowly avoided death Monday at seven. He handed a transcribed order to the engineer while running beside a fast train, slipped on a twig, and was badly cut with lacerations and scalp wounds. He received medical care and is resting at home.

Local Wedding At St Marys Church In Flynna

A church ceremony took place Monday morning at seven at St Marys Church with Rev Schofield officiating. The contracting parties were Mrs Jennie Bennett of West Broad Street and Daniel treaty. The couple will reside in Eiyera and are well regarded in Tuia county.

An effort is under way to persuade FN Smith to run for president of the Coveil and White. As council presiding officer for four years, he has a record of fair decisions and able leadership. Florence Langworthy seeks a divorce from Jefferson Langworthy in Grafton on grounds of extreme cruelty, with two children. Lee Stroup is the plaintiff's attorney.

Reunion of Sons and Daughters of the 103rd and 108th OVI

The Sons and Daughters of the 103rd and 108th Ohio Volunteer Infantry held an end winter reunion in the GAR hall today. A sumptuous dinner was served and attendees spent the day in merrymaking and reminiscence.

Clara Walford appears before Judge Webber on a Monday morning charge of keeping hours of ill fame. She pleads guilty and is fined $100 plus costs. The will of Sophia Schultz Jag is admitted to probate. Clara Wilford receives $100 and one third of the estate. Lena Schultz gains two thirds. Frank Schultz is named heir.

Two Candidates for City Auditor Race

A note lists Frank R Fanuver and W H Park as registered candidates for city auditor under the new code. Park, the current city and township clerk, is noted as an experienced official. Fanuver is a young man with law studies and recent steel plant office work.

Convention of Lorain County Educators at YMCA

A Lorain County educators meeting convened at the YMCA building with about thirty principals superintendents and teachers in attendance. Delegates toured the MCGA gymnasium during a morning adjournment and heard addresses from D J Boone Kinman Evert Eldredge and Oberlin College president H Emg focusing on Oberlin College's relation to local schools. Marlowe Fond of the Theater appeared as a literate theater figure.

Chamber discussions over police board salaries

The chamber of commerce debated the proper pay for police service board members at a Saturday meeting. It previously recommended 3500 a year but shifted toward 900 to 1000, citing difficulty in recruiting candidates, with no formal action taken. A citizen group then formed to seek suitable candidates and gauge salary opinions.

A marriage license was issued by Judge Human to L Guin of Wellington and Mre Maury E Stoddard of Cleveland. They were married Saturday night in Wellington by Rev Dr T W Grose with daughters of both parties present. Guion had advertised for a wife and received five hundred offers, choosing Stoddard. Janitor Amos Maxted Injured After Fall From Roof

Amos Maxted of West Avenue, janitor at the high school building, was seriously injured Friday when a snow clogged ice chute on his house roof caused him to slip and fall. He struck his back and head but survived. recovery expected after extended layoff.

Elyria MCA Champions Defeat Lorain in Tight Game

Elyria MCA basketball team, led by Shoupe and Day, overturned a 10 1 deficit at halftime to beat Lorain 21 14 after a strong second half showing. Elyria, backed by twenty supporters, extended their win streak to seven. Great Britain mined 27 million tons of minerals last year from 11121 mines and quarries.
