Land Slide Buries Track Near Birmingham Bridge

A major land slide after heavy rain blocked the C E and W Ry near the Birmingham bridge on Wednesday. Topsoil slid into the track, burying it for several rods, prompting a night effort by a large crew to clear the line for the first car on Thursday morning. Local clerk saves woman from enraged bull near Ridgevale

Ernest Erkie a Elyria grocery clerk delivered groceries near Ridgevale when a bull charged a young woman who fled. He jumped from his wagon and drove the animal away, then guided her to safety to her home. Mrs John Shultz of Fifth street died at 78 in Ashtabula after illness. Funeral plans uncertain. Shultz born in Germany came early to this area. Also obituary: Andrew Griesinger of Medina died of pneumonia after a long illness. He was known in the county.

Oberlin student Hayward jailed for theft during gym incident

Student Hayward from Xoukera N was charged with stealing $23 from D R Johnson at Warner gymnasium. He pled guilty and was sentenced by Mayor Fauver to twenty days in jail and a $25 fine plus costs, with immediate transfer to Elyria county jail. A Valentine social by the Uniform Bank KOTM is set for Saturday night February 14 with prizes for top valentines and dancing music.

Injuries and Death Reported in Elyma

A Nicholl of A Nicholl and company was severely injured lifting a buggy box when a support slipped. The strain caused muscle overexertion and confinement to his room. Mrs John T Chestnut died at her home on West Avenue after months of illness. Former Norwalk residents, she was daughter of Mrs Schonacker, once proprietor of Hotel Weber. The Chestnuts moved to Elyma about five years ago where her husband works at Hotel Toph.

Candidates for State Legislature Reported in Wellington

Mayor George L Couch plans to announce candidacy for representative in the state lower house. Joseph T Haskell also announces, with prior service in the lower house, military service, a law degree, and local prominence in Wellington. The Wellington Enterprise notes coal weight figures and bin measurement rules, then criticizes the Oberlin News reprinting from the Cleveland Leader under a special Elyria Chronicle tag.

Reunion of the 103rd Ohio Volunteers Infantry

The annual mid winter reunion of the sons and daughters of the 103rd regiment Ohio Volunteers Infantry will be held in the GAR hall Monday February 23. New Railroad Order For Firemen Causes Discontent

The Lorian Times Herald reports a new railroad directive requiring firemen to bring engines into the roundhouse with clean fires and ash pans after long runs. Firemen complain the rule adds work and reduces rest, noting crews on road 12 to 80 hours previously worked hard already.

Ordination Service at Ridgeville Congregational Church

A council in Ridgeville on February 11 ordained Rev Francis Wayland Cove who recently accepted the call. Delegates including Rev Dr Bradshaw and Rev Wannamaker presided with sermons, prayers, and laying on of hands.
