Democrats Fight Over House Rules And Leader Nomination
Washington December 4 Democrats in the House met for two hours to align party policy and procedure as they nominate officers for Monday. John Sharp Williams was unanimously chosen as minority leader. Williams urged opposition to subsidies and support for anti trust and government rate regulation. He defended Democratic principles against GOP praise and pledged to push federal rail rate controls. The caucus elected HR L Henry as chair, Bowers and Robertson as secretaries, with Williams named Speaker and several officers including Cowherd, Edwards, Taylor, Douglas, and Crouch. Special employees from last Congress were renominated. A Bartlett resolution requires the minority to oppose any House rules adopted for more than 30 days.
