Freight Conductor Killed by Flyer at Bates
Frank Douglas a well known freight conductor was struck by train 26 at Bates Thursday night and killed instantly. The accident occurred as the local freight division was switching in the yard at Berea. Douglas, who was married with four children, stepped onto the main track and could not hear the flyer due to the noise.

Oberlin to raise catalpas for water supply area
Oberlin trustees plan extensive catalpa planting on 140 acre water works farm south of the city to guard water sources.
