A Graham Paige sedan rolled after skidding on gravel nine miles west of West Union on Primary No 18. Mrs Arthur Trask of St Louis died from severed jugular after glass injuries. Her husband, also in the rear, was paralyzed. the 3 year old son in the front escaped unharmed. The driver, a Madison Wisconsin resident, and her parents were en route to Madison from Charles City via McGregor to board a ferry.

Economy driving contest yields surprising mileage on tough Elgin Gander road
Seventy three drivers entered Falk and Sona economy driving contest testing how far a quart of gasoline could push an eight cylinder Chevrolet. Clarence Winkler won with 6.9 miles and Mrs. Sheldon Boyle followed at 6.86. A three way tie for third at 5.8 miles included Gerhard Halverson Susie Rush and Mrs. George Pollitt. Average across drivers was 6.45 miles per quart.

Buys Out Holmes Electric Shop Seizes Stock and Building
John Grimm purchased the balance of stock of Holmes Electric Shop on Saturday and moved his remaining stock to the Holmes building, rented for a year. Holmes left the area after selling his business. his new location is unknown. Dorothy DeSart and Harold Greenley were dinner guests in Lima at the Guy Sterns home in honor of Richard Oelberg's birthday. A liquor nuisance case resulted in a $300 fine and costs, plus a suspended jail sentence if paid. Trial jurors were postponed to report Sept 29 for criminal and civil cases. Judge W L Eschendorf will hear civil cases upon return from Des Moines.

Plans to Rebuild Yearous Home After Fire
Andrew Yearous stated plans to rebuild the house that burned last Wednesday afternoon. The 13 room structure was among the largest in the area, valued at 12 000 and insured for 9 000, with about 2 000 of equipment in the cellar also lost. He hopes to have a new dwelling ready by winter. The fire started near the chimney, enveloping the attic within hours and destroying the building in under two hours. All first floor furniture survived, but the heating and light plants were a total loss. No insurance adjustment has been made yet.

The Northeast Iowa Masonic Fellowship association held its first fall meeting in Guttenberg on Friday Sept. 12. Grand Master and notable lodge leaders spoke to about 150 attendees at the high school gym and a baked fish supper followed at the Prairie La Porte temple.
