A Telephonie Term Phantom circuit allows a phone line current to be superimposed on five pairs of wires. The third phantom circuit is created by wiring two pairs in a specific arrangement. When correctly set, three separate, noninterfering conversations can occur simultaneously.
My and Mrs. Max Lehman and family were dinner guests in the Earl Kiple home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Steffans and two children of West Union were dinner guests in the Alfred Jacob home Sunday.
Oak Grove residents hosted and visited kin and friends this week with gatherings at the Reed, Boyle, Wilson, Dummermuth, Kohls, and Conner households. Danes, Ed Boyle, and Walter Kohls families joined in dinners, calls, and a Saturday party, noting trips to Elgin and Clear Lake for picnics.
Mrs. Arthur Herrling resumes duties as assistant cashier at Citizens' State Bank starting Saturday and will stay until the latter part of the week to assist during tax time and busy business. The bank called her back as extra help for rush periods.
Cheery Valley News notes numerous social visits around Postville with families and neighbors calling at homes including the Friederich, Butikofer, Hanson, and Leuchtenmacher households. A wedding shower for Florence Friederich and Edwin Nelson is mentioned along with a basket dinner for Adolph Baumgartner’s relatives. Local scenes show visitors from Elkader and Shullsburg plus trips to West Bend to see Fr. Dobberstein’s grotto.

Lent Senay was promotion day and next Sunday begins an attendance contest. Five girls will present Five Little Maids in China: Betty Elkems Kathleen Steele Maxine Hunsberger Margaret Crider Louise Evans. The church appeals for time money attention and better citizenship, urging support beyond mere funds.
The Rev. A. A. Rideout from Manchester preaches powerful sermons as revival meetings persist nightly at 8 p.m. through Friday October 10. Topics include The four Rivers of Eden, Gods Plowman, and The Imperative Call. Sunday includes morning programs with Rideout speaking at both services. Ph Lauer, Pastor.

Mrs Hans Friederich spent Monday with Sam Lehman and with Fox of Forest City. Elgin relatives hosted Elmer Bennett and a Bristol Vermont guest last Thursday. All Allamakee county banks will hold minimal cash on hand to deter robberies, a prudent step for rural banks. A note mentions hog losses and a cattle disease affecting a herd vaccinated for spring.
