World Day of Prayer Service at Elgin Lutheran Church

Elgin area observes World Day of Prayer on Thursday February 16 1961 with The Lord's Prayer Meditation. The service features organ preludes by Janice Loftsgard scripture by Rev Dennis Stutrud hymns including Holy Holy Holy and a vocal solo The Lord's Prayer, plus offerings and benediction. Participating churches include First Baptist Elgin Lutheran Clermont Methodist Tilyria Community and St Pauls Methodist Elgin.

Valley Girls Rout South Winneshiek 90 46 in 20th Straight Win

Valley high school girls defeated South Winneshiek 90 to 46 on Friday February 19 in Calmar to extend their season record to 20-0. Diane Frieden led with 51 points, Anita Olson added 29, while Margaret Rothmeyer of South Winneshiek scored 18. The Tigers led all game and finished regular season with an undefeated mark.

Valley High Tigers defeated South Winneshiek Calmar 84 to 61 in a non-conference game at Ossian. Valley opened with 12–0 run and led 27–12 after one, 44–27 at half. Dennis Shaffer sprained ankle early. Roger Torson led Valley with 27 points, Carl Erickson 14, Hueter 25 for Calmar.

Pleasant Valley Homemaker's Club gathered February 10 at Mrs. Carlton Krueger's residence. Members sang the American Farm Bureau Spirit song and pledged allegiance.
