Hughes proposes $230 million annual budget and tax plan
Governor Hughes proposes a 230 million dollar yearly budget with a 38 million dollar uplift for special education and a stronger income tax with withholding to raise over 33 million annually. Liquor by the glass, expanded sales tax to motels and hotels, and tax collection changes would cover the rest while promising property tax relief and higher education funding, offset by building program cuts. He leaves room for a possible sales tax increase if lawmakers demand it and hints at ongoing state policy debates.
