The Elgin weekly paper published every Wednesday by Hermen and Bartunek is entered as second class mail matter September 1, 1891 at Elgin post office Fayette County Iowa under the 1852 act.
The Sunnydale Club met Tuesday January 29 at M J Blockhus home. Mrs Blockhus led devotions and American was sung. Mrs Otto Blockhus read Guidelines for Country Living. Mrs Bernard Hanson read A Commodore's Prayer. Members shared hints. roll call themed A New Year’s Resolution. They tied a quilt. February meeting at Veryl Co home. bring homemade or old valentine.
Joseph Lewis Peters, son of Charles A and Mabel Patter son Peters, was born July 16 1906 in Pleasant Valley township Fayette County Iowa. He is remembered in a brief obituary noting his birth details and family.
In West Union on May 29 1928 he wed Vivian Rowland and the Peters couple raised six children around Elgin. He worked on Fayette county road crews for twenty years and retired three years ago due to ill health. Survived by his wife, four sons and eight grandchildren, plus three sisters and many relatives. Funeral Saturday at West Union cemetery with pallbearers from the Rowland and Kerr families.
Frank M Moats born May 1883 at West Union died aged 1049 Funeral services held at St Pauls Methodist Church with burial at Cedar Rapids Survivors include son Frank E Moats Bristol R 1 brother Bev Venice Fla sisters efaume New Orleans and Daisy Moats New York. Muehlethaler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The Busy Beavers 4 H Club held its regular meeting January 14 at Cheryl Andersons home with Kaye and Benere Shoftsgard assisting as hostesses. Twenty five members attended the roll call.

A reception for Rev. and Mrs. George Breitkreuz was held at the First Baptist Church in Elgin at 2:00 pm on February 3. The program featured hymns, readings, choirs, and welcome remarks from local clergy, with reflections on the new minister and a food shower.
National Youth Week observed at Elgin Baptist Church began Sunday Jan 27 with a Youth for Christ Rally in the afternoon. Paul Cedar of Cedar Rapids was guest speaker for services and rally. Janice Durscher led Sunday morning, with scripture by Clarissa Miller and prayers by Kay Miller and Mary Jacob. Music included choruses led by Alyce Oelberg, various vocal quartets, trumpets, and an offertory by Anita Lehman.
A morning worship service drew about 400 attendees in a Sunday gathering. Ralliers gathered to hear speakers and share the event with the community.
