Luther League met Thursday evening February 7 in the Elgin church parlor with 16 members. Pastor Fjelstul opened with prayer, three hymns were sung, and Connie Dummermuth presided over the business session. E W Hilgemann resigned as sponsor. Bible study and quiz followed, with topics on church spirit and prayer. Lunch served by Karen Hilgemann Steven Halvers on Burnell Frieden.
Sandra Rae Kjosa daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Kjosa of Elgin wed Marvin K Holck of Kanawha Iowa at Marion Lutheran Church Gander on Sunday Feb 3. Ceremony by Pastor Henry Mature. Bride wore chalk white bridal brocade gown with pearl bead embroidery and chapel train. Veil, pearl crown, bouquet of red roses lilies of the valley on a white Bible with hyacinths.
The ceremony featured Miss Diane Holck as maid of honor and Miss Sher ley Merkel as bridesmaid both in red satin gowns with bonbon roses. Best man was Charles Hartvig, with Ted Kjosa and ushers Jim Hartwig and Larry Anderson. Organist Kathleen Gisleson and vocalist Roger Rueter performed, followed by a 200 guest church parlor reception. The couple, both local graduates, will reside in Kanawha Town where the groom farms after a Colorado trip.
On Saturday February 9 the Ilyria Clipperettes met to pledge the flag and answer roll call by 16 members and three leaders. Jeri Martin served as treasurer and minutes reader. They planned a 4 H week window display with Jeri Martin Gail Light Janice Friederich and Mrs Martin to execute it. Talks covered health habits and dental care while Myra Moore spoke on hair care. Hostesses were Mary Beth Larson and Wanda Marin.
The Progress Club met at Lantz home with Pete Goodell as president. Members voted to donate three dollars to the arthritis foundation and two dollars to Radio Free Europe. Mrs Henry McMillan was named clubwoman of the year. Officers elected for 1963 64 are Gladys Feller president Paul Zurbriggen secretary Harry Johnson treasurer Derry Leonhart. A travel talk by Mrs Russell Goodell covered Mexico Brazil and Peru. Next meeting March 11 at Baptist Church with Town and Country Club Clermont guests.
Mr and Mrs Larry Butikofer entertained Saturday as guests joined in a card party. Louis Becker Jr won men s high and Mrs Dale Seitz took ladies high while Mr and Mrs Louis Becker Jr served as traveling. Other guests included Mr and Mrs Earl Lembke Mr and Mrs Roger Howard and Mr and Mrs Richard Frieden. Lunch was served.
The Marion Busy Bees 4 H club held a regular meeting focusing on care of the hands and nails. Members discussed proper grooming and nail hygiene practices, sharing tips and demonstrations.
The Syria Farm Bureau Homemakers met February 15 at Mrs. Carl Kuhens home. Members discussed upcoming events and shared recipe ideas.
The Marion Busy Bees 4-H Club met at Dorothy Meisaner’s home on February 11. Members presented a talk on Choosing and Using a Pattern by Genevieve Christen, and a team demonstration Selecting Appropriate Line by Sylvia Hanson and Vera Coffin. An illustrated talk Sewing Basket by Diane Hanson, a Hands and Nails care demonstration by Ima Brackin, and a team demonstration Seing Appropriate olot by Schupbach and Dorothy Meisner were featured, with lunch provided by Mrs Harold Meisner and Rev Vera Coffin.
A group of friends and relatives hosted a surprise anniversary party for Mr and Mrs Kenton Krueger on Thursday evening February 14. Guests included Mrs Selmer Erickson Alyce Postville Mr and Mrs Abel Habeger Mrs Edward Krueger Mr and Mrs Lorence Muehlethaler Barbara and Charles and Mrs Clarence Muehlethaler.
Last Tuesday the Tabitha Evening Circle met at the Guy Probert home. Marlene Durscher led the program and played George Beverly Shea recordings including Leaning On The Everlasting Arms.
Mrs Harry Johnson and Mrs Kenton Krue presented a skit titled Found The Answer and I d Rather Have Jesus. Mary Schaer reported on Geraidine Glasmapp missionary work. Mrs Gary Gilson gave devotions titled Growing in faith.
