The Elgin Echo in Elgin Iowa publishes every Wednesday under Hermen and Bartunee. It is entered as second class mail matter Sept 1 1891 at the Elgin post office Fayette County Iowa under the act of March 3 1852.
Elgin Iowa town council enacts a five member Cemetery Trustees board. qualifications require residents over 21, appointments by mayor with council approval, vacancies filled to complete terms, powers to manage cemeteries, finances, and lot sales. Reports due annually, no fixed trustee compensation except possibly secretary treasurer, ordinance to repeal conflicting provisions. Passed December 6 1965.
The council approves the ordinance on December 6, 1565. Mayor Max Medberry signs the resolution and Clerk Len E. Friederich attests its passage. The record records formal adoption by city government authority.
In Elgin at St. Pauls Methodist Church on Friday evening December 10 Inga Gunnarsdottir formerly of Reykjavik Iceland became the bride of Jerry D Medberry son of Mr and Mrs Walter Medberry The couple exchanged vows with Rev Lee Roy Collins officiating The groom wore his Navy uniform The bride wore a light blue ensemble with white satin slippers and carried a bouquet on a white Bible They received family as guests and plans were to honeymoon then return to Beeville Texas where Mr Medberry is stationed
Christmas program at Elgin Lutheran features preschool and grade recitations songs and poems. Performers include Gregg Kleppe Jeffrey Lehman Kris Sutter Connie Pfister Janis Johnson Joni Hagelie and many others with groups from grace and 2nd grade.
The St Pauls Church School program features a children's group with songs by nursery and kindergarten classes, speakers from first through fourth grades, a junior choir, and a Christmas pageant with roles for children from Italy, Germany, France, England, and Mexico. Congregation joins in Silent Night as Rev. Lee Roy Collins presides.
Sunday morning worship at 10 and Sunday school at 11 with CBYF at 7 5 pm and an evening service at 3 pm. Wednesday features a rolling party at 7 pm and Friday includes a Christmas Eve program at 7 45.
The Friendship Birthday Club gathered at Arthur Lantz's residence with Mrs Grace Evans to celebrate her birthday. Members present included Mrs Leon, Mrs George Vaughn, Mrs Ed Boleyn, Mrs Anne Howard, Mrs C T Fjelsdal, Mrs Metta Krueger, and Clara Muchfethaler. Guests were Mrs Eugene Jacobson, Mrs Irene Yack, Mrs Karl Lembke, Mrs R P Strauch, Mrs Eileen Keneger, and Mrs Lee Roy Col. Absent but sending gifts were Mrs Louis Butikoffer, Mrs Ida Pulfer, Mrs Ida Cummings, and Mrs Bertha Lehman.
Fabricate Club met Tuesday December 7 at the home of Mrs Keith Johnson with Mrs Jim Frieden as co host. A brief business session planned January craft followed by a Christmas gift exchange and secret pals draw. Entertainment was provided by 500 with prizes to top winners and traveling by Mrs Harold Halverson. Guest Mrs Charles Capper attended.
Elgin hosts Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Desmond of Davenport for winter. Delbert Show baby shower in Luana. dinner guests at Clermont include the Becker family. Milt Mohs and Jodi with Lawrence Mohs. Cedar Falls visits and overnight stays in various households. David Boleyn shot an 11 point deer Sunday. Kling man s Clothes Shop Christmas special offers free shirt tie and belt with every suit. Inez Shaffer hosts and visits. Kahler Nursing pre-nurses test attended by Margaret Jacob. Dennis Shaffer and Forrest Shaffer visit Cedar Rapids and East Union respectively.
A long list of Sunday dinners and weekend visits across West Union and nearby towns includes Mr. and Mrs. Schaer hosting, guests from Guyer, Schori, Reierson, and Kohler families, and appearances by Delh i and Mason City residents. Various calls and social calls are noted, along with church and school community events and local funeral attendance.
