Producers were reminded that the 1965 marketing year under the wool and mohair program ends December 31. Chairman Herbert M. Ash said payments depend on completing all marketing details by then. Marketing completed after December 31, 1965, will be counted in the 1966 year and payments delayed until 1967.
Applications for the 1965 marketing year payments under the National Wool Act may be filed with the Fayette County ASCS office any time, but the chairman said the sooner the better. Incentive payments are based on the average National price for marketing during the year and are more accurate with complete reports. ASCS aims to have all applications filed before January 1, 1966. payments for the 1965 marketing year will likely begin in April of next year.
The Paul Hofer family hosted supper at the Robert Hanson home in Cheery Valley. Sandra Highley of Poke City visited in the Albert L Dennler home in Cheery Valley. Mrs George Nickels and grandson Mark Nickels traveled to Town City for an eye exam. Albert Erickson and family from Farmersburg spent Friday with Roscoe Larson. The Wm Butikofer family from Durant joined Marie Butikofer for weekend meals. Jim Frieden and Albert Parker from Volga stopped by the John Christen home for Sunday calls.
Sam Dennler and Edwin Hanson spent Sunday with ill Wm. Friederich. Mrs. Roscoe Larson visited Christen brothers. Mrs. Ellen Mason was a morning caller. Mr. and Mrs. James Frieden were evening callers. Mrs. Martin Hanson visited sister Lizzie Chase in James Hermen home Friday. Orville Moore and Martin Hanson were Friday callers. John Christen visited Frank Christen home Saturday. Ernest Christen visited Saturday evening with Ida Christen. Celia Thoman was a guest. Edwin Hanson called Sunday in Martin Hanson home. Genevieve Christen of Cedar Falls returned home for holiday. Fred Butikofer and Wm. Moore family attended Smorgasbord in Oelwe Sunday noon.
One soil conservation plan was approved at the December meeting of the Fayette County Soil Conservation District Commissioners, reports Carl Lueder.
District Chairman reports new cooperators for Bethel area including Jack Schatz Auburn Township Edgar MDonough Uuson and Westfield Townships and Robert E Toulouse Westfield and Illyria Townships. U.S. Soil Conservation Service technicians assisted C J Ludwigeowner and Lawrence Barry tenant with plan updates. Also approved a revised conservation plan for Bert Butikofer Pleasant Valley Township.
Central of El Kader led by junior distributor Denny Hijelming as Valley High overwhelmed the Tigers 79 to 68 Friday night. Valley grabbed control in the waning minutes of the third period and held on for the win.
Valley trailed by eight at halftime but cut the gap to three during the third. Sam Roberts led Valley with 26 points, followed by Steve Halverson's 18. Central veterans Dick Braun and Giselming added 21 and 17 as five Valley starters reached double digits. Valley won 57-49 as Bob Reeder scored 21 for Valley while Kevin Vorvald led Central with 22.
