Lynnwood Neighbors Oppose Widening 40th Street
At the June 23 Lynnwood City Council public hearing on the 1987-1992 Transportation Improvement Plan residents opposed widening 40th Avenue West from 24 to 40 feet citing increased traffic and safety concerns. The plan would cost about 39.7 million for all items, with improvements requiring resident funding and not urgent per Mayor Hrdlicka. The group supported curbs and gutters but rejected road widening. Local residents voiced fear of loss of neighborhood character and speeding. CITY public works director Nimms noted plan requires state approval and possible special districts to finance. Mayor Hrdlicka said the project was not high on the list.
