Lynnwood forms LID for 196th S.W. upgrade
Lynnwood City Council unanimously approves forming a local improvement district for 196th S.W. between Poplar Way and 24th Ave. W. The LID funds widening to 60 feet, pavement, curbs and gutters, seven foot sidewalks, traffic signals, and other devices with 80 percent state funding. Local cost totals 727000 for the district plus right of way and design fees. Dispute over assessment fairness arises from developers and city officials discuss special versus general benefits and potential donations of right of way to cut costs. The council also allocates 1000 for Kiwanis Rites of Autumn, updates an ordinance for churches in commercial zones, and approves several interlocal agreements.

Couple sues Terrace over sewage spill
Edmonds couple Fritz and Gertrude Goeckel sue Mountlake Terrace for 435000 in nuisance damages after 2.5 million gallons of sewage spilled from Ballinger Pump Station on July 2. They seek losses for use of home, lake frontage, personal property, medical costs, mental anguish, and property value impact. The suit, filed December 20 by Seattle attorney Ed Wood, cites testing disputes and repair delays as key issues while noting ongoing negotiations with the city and its insurer.

Company bids for Alaska magazine transfer
EDMONDS Yankee Publishing, publisher of Farmers Almanac, seeks to buy Alaska Magazine from Alaska Northwest Publishing. Bob Henning says negotiations are ongoing and finalization is not guaranteed. LOIs were signed in Anchorage for the 160,000 circulation monthly magazine. Sale should not affect ANP's Milepost guides and other units. Alaska Northwest Publishing has run its U.S. offices in Edmonds for ten years.
