New wheelchair conveyance law put in effect
A new state law requires licensing of wheelchair conveyances used on highways. Vehicles designed to transport a wheelchair bound person may be licensed as passenger cars motorcycles or mopeds based on braking equipment. They must reach 20 mph on level ground pass a State Patrol inspection and be tax exempt for handicapped equipment.

Recycling centers recertified in 1983 by Washington Ecology
Alice Adams announced 74 state recycling centers certified in 1983, up from 62 last year with 12 new honors. Northwest Metal Recycling at 16520 Highway 99 is among recertified centers meeting six month existence, six day access, sign, and multi recyclable acceptance criteria. The Recycling Hotline lists over 1,038 locations by geography and recyclables, aiding public inquiries since 1976.

Snyder named Edmonds postmaster after long postal career
Tom Snyder a 14 year Postal Service veteran becomes Edmonds Post Office postmaster succeeding Don Nelson. He comes from Garden Grove California where he managed customer services for four years and joined the service in 1969 as a Seal Beach clerk. Snyder holds a history degree from California State University Long Beach and has held multiple posts across California and Washington including Seattle area stints. He and wife Georgia will move to Edmonds next year with daughters Tamara and Erica.

Lynnwood Kiwanis Club and the Lynnwood High School cross country team captain Eric Hruschka earned college scholarship offers from several institutions after strong finishes in Longview and Fresno events. He placed fourth among 90 at Longview, 56th of 350 regionals in Fresno, and 18th of 360 nationally in Fresno. Hruschka plans to run cross country and pursue one and two mile track events in college.
