Second Spruce annexation hearing looms for Lynnwood zoning
The second zoning hearing on the Spruce annexation of 92 acres north of Lynnwood is set for Jan. 23. If owners of 75 percent of assessed value sign on, the council may adopt the plan as is or modify it after testimonies. Boundaries are 44th Ave west Spruce Way east city limits south near 172nd St SW north near 164th St SW. Residents debate staying rural versus development spurred by annexation and sewer plans. County RR 8400 zoning currently allows 8400 sq ft lots, with a 300 foot wide 44th Ave strip enabling higher density. city RS 8 aims to protect residential areas, while RMM zoning prospects remain under discussion.

Boy's lemonade funds help girl with spinal tumor
John Opfermann, a Spruce Elementary fourth grader from Lynnwood, donated lemonade stand earnings to Belinda Falgout of Puyallup for a $35,000 spinal tumor operation. He sent a letter, they became friends, and Belinda was guest of honor at his December dinner. Belinda travels to Seattle for radiation therapy and will begin therapy after returning home. Edmonds School District approves eight million levy for 1985 86

Edmonds log cabin seen as historic asset in council debate
Edmonds officials and residents debated the Tink Anderson log cabin at Ninth and Dayton. Counciman-elect Lloyd Ostrom urged recognition of its historic value citing the cabin’s link to Northwest School founders Anderson, Tobey and Graves and its mention in the Community Development Code.
