Tutmark Hill’s last chicken farmer recalls a vanishing way of life

Chub and Helen Tutmark, now 85 and 78, live in a three acre semi rural spread on what locals once called Tutmark Hill. Their row of now mostly empty chicken houses recalls a time when South County hosted 300 farms. They built the place in 1928, endured bank losses, and shifted to mink before retirement. The surrounding suburbs encroach as the hill fades from its poultry heritage.
