Sylacauga Woman Held on Murder Charge in Husband Slaying

A Sylacauga woman, Mrs. W C Gunn, was jailed on a first degree murder charge in the shooting death of her husband near Oxford. A coroner's verdict found Gunn's death caused by a pistol shot, and a warrant was issued after the verdict. The grand jury convenes June 9, with a preliminary hearing uncertain.

Dothan Bank to pay 30 percent dividend Saturday

The defunct Dothan National Bank will pay a 30 percent dividend to all approved debt claims on Saturday, with about 1,000 people to receive from a total payout of 210,404.07 dollars. Claims filed to date total 701,362.12 dollars, and payments begin at 9 a.m. The bank's assets exceed liabilities by 465,052.12 dollars, and receiver Albert Lohm plans quarterly dividends until liquidation.

Film Actress Marion Nixon Robbed On Passenger Train

Marion Nixon and her husband Edward Hillman along with Robert Lehman of Detroit were robbed on the Santa Fe Los Angeles Chicago train near Pasadena. Jewelry worth 6500 and 575 in cash taken. robbery lasting seven minutes. Ruby Keeler present but unharmed. bandit fled and police searched Los Angeles and Pasadena.

Tangipahoa Parish grand jury indicted Charles Gordon Newton Henry and Is Starnes on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony wounding and disfiguring Dr Sedgie I Newsom with caustic substance. Record May Grand Jury Indicts 350 In Prohibition Case

In Chicago on May 29 the federal grand jury indicted 350 people for liquor law violations. Among those named was Ralph J. Capone, brother of Al Capone, in two true bills tied to raids on the Cotton Club and Montmartre Club. The indictments cite illegal sale and possession, public nuisance, and conspiracy. Capone faces possible penalties under the Jones law and a prior income tax fraud conviction. Additional co defendants include Percy Haller, Harry Mc Rae, Art Goldie, Bennie Compton, Jock Keeler, Robert Keany, and two others known as Rasputin and Logen.

Mothers of war dead leave Paris for home

Paris May 29 AP The 127 Gold Star mothers departed Paris this forenoon by special train to Cherbourg where they will sail home aboard the President Harding. Mrs Sarah G Thompson from New York spoke at the Unknown Soldier tomb ceremony and Mrs Annie Marks from Apalachicola praised the government for the trip. Florence Williams of Portsmouth Ohio remains at Verdun improving. The others plan further European tours.
