Ninety one percent of all merchandise in a $500000 surplus sale went to veterans, the War Assets Administration reported. Major items included maritime galley equipment meat stitchers potato peelers soap powders finery and navigational instruments. The government recovered nineteen percent of original cost from this sale which covered inventory valued above $400000 and included trucks textiles machinery and scrap material.
