Typhus-Rat Control Crews Work In Cottonwood Area

County health officer Dr. W. T. Burkett reports typhus rat control crews operating in Beat Six Cottonwood with six two-man trucks and a seven truck four-man team on the City. Good weather aids progress and first county round near completion by about June 15, after rain delayed the start in March.

Red Cross Starts Home Nursing Class in Houston County

The Houston County chapter of the American Red Cross began a home nursing class last Wednesday with eight members. Instructor is Miss Bernice King, county public health nurse. Classes meet in Red Cross offices two afternoons each week. final session on May 21. Participants include Mrs. Tarl E. Kirk, Mrs. Curtis L. Adams, Mrs. C. Fire Chief R H Ryan reported a small fire at Collins Bakery early today caused by a defective furnace. No injuries were listed and the blaze caused slight damage to the premises.

Fire At Coney Island Destroys Five Buildings

NEW YORK AP Fire at Coney Island destroyed five buildings and damaged a dozen more as wind fueled flames for four hours. Doctors treated 22 people for smoke inhalation, mostly firefighters, with no serious injuries. Officials put the loss at $125,000 as the blaze began in a bar kitchen and spread to a restaurant and three other structures.

Newton Man Injured In County Collision

A. L. Turner of Newton route One received a cut on the left leg in an automobile accident on Alabama highway No. 66 about 6 30 p m yesterday two miles west of Vicksburg, according to highway patrol. Turner and Arnold W. Johnson of Newton route two collided at the highway county road intersection. Johnson was not injured and vehicle damage was light.

Collision damages cars in Dothan street crash

Police said Mrs Vannie Riley Grimsley of 606 Dusy Street collided with Dawsey of Route Five in Dothan while Dawsey’s car was parked on St Andrews Street. Neither driver was injured, and workers on farms earned new wages in 1946.
