Misfortune again hits unemployed worker in city

A Negro man placed by the unemployment agency last week chopped wood for 80 cents daily to support his wife and baby. His home burned on Friday, leaving only a few salvaged belongings on the porch as he stayed with friends. On Saturday he received second hand clothing to replace what burned.

New Golf Ball Praised by Pros in Winter Reports

Gossip from winter golfing fronts notes Albert Gates of the PGA of America says the new golf ball is a hit with professionals. Evening activities included egg hunts, wiener roast, and numerous social visits among locals and visitors.

Increase in Corn Planting Advised Montgomery

F W Gist state and federal statistician at Montgomery praises and berates Alabama farmers in his latest bulletin on planting prospects. He endorses a seven percent corn acreage rise and a heavy oats yield while warning against large increases in pea nuts and sweet potatoes. Hay acreage up 12 percent is deemed wise to meet farm needs and surplus sale. He urges saving grass hay and growing soybeans cowpeas and pea nuts to support this plan.

Local firms donate fertilizer and supplies for unemployed aid

Three tons of fertilizer for garden use by the unemployed were donated equally by Home Guano Co Dothan Guano Co and Virginia Carolina Chemical Co. Gasoline firms provided transport fuel with Sherifl and Texas Oil Co giving 25 gallons and Standard Oil Co 10 gallons. Ten gallons of syrup from Cash Drug Store and clothing from several donors joined cash gifts from Probate Judge Harry K Martin Miss Jewel Goolsby and W E Barber.

Miller Grants Paroles to Fifteen Prisoners

Governor Miller on recommendation of the state pardon board granted good behavior paroles to 15 convicts. Recipients include Freeman Riley Mobile county murder case, Lucy Moseley Dallas county murder, Eugene Osborne Pike county liquor transport, and others from Jefferson, Tallapoosa, and surrounding counties. Each parole includes clothing and a $10 start fund.
