Negroes Bound Over on Postal Charges In Enterprise

Roy Tucker and Clenton Upshaw were bound over to the federal grand jury after a preliminary hearing before U S Commissioner Beaty Whiddon in Enterprise. Bond was set at 500 each. Agnes Tucker, wife of Roy Tucker, was released after more than a week in jail.

Floor of Dwelling Here Is Slightly Damaged By Flames

A car dwelling on South Verdiawn Drive owned by Will Thompson was slightly damaged last night when an air pit overheated and set fire to the floor. Two families occupied the house. A Negro house on Montgomery Highway was lightly damaged next morning with several shingles burned from the roof, firemen said. Sparks were blamed for the blazes.

Houston County Cotton Ginnings Decline in 1931

John M. Dykes, special agricultural agent, announced Houston county ginned 32,979 bales in 1931, a drop from 46,829 bales in 1930. The year 1931 totaled 18,850 fewer bales than the previous year, reflecting a notable decline in cotton production for the county.

Panama City March 28 Joseph Harrison pleads guilty to murder in the fatal buckshot shooting of Walter W. Sharpless whose body was found roadside in the eastern city area last May The court asked for his plea and he answered I am guilty I reckon The case involves Walter E Harrison a 17 year old indicted with his father for murder first degree with life imprisonment recommendation an appeal to the supreme court is pending

Execution Delayed by Snowstorm at Rockview Prison

Quincy Wallands, 34, a former Key West resident, died in the electric chair after a two hour delay caused by a snowstorm. Warden Stanly Ashe said witnesses and a priest could not reach the prison by 7 am. a Bellefonte report cited a power failure, which Ashe denied. Sixteen inches of snow blocked roads. Wallands left a final note: “Boys, I die brave. Put your faith in God.”
