AIKEN Feb 14 AP Capt Thomas Washington Coward marked his 100th birthday Monday after a minor fall injury. He receives visitors at his home two miles from town. Coward served nine years as a South Carolina railroad conductor, with a four month stint in the Confederate army. His railroad service ended Feb 11 1868 when Sherman’s army wrecked the line en route to the sea. He then became a farmer.

Toby Cook, a diminutive rider of about 45 pounds, begins an 800 mile voyage from Chula, Georgia, toward Washington for Franklin D. Roosevelt's inauguration. Railway May Abandon Line In Mississippi

Examiner R R Melster urged the Interstate Commerce Commission to allow Southern Railway and Mobile and Ohio to abandon a 37 mile branch from Okolona to Calhoun City Mississippi. The line runs through Chickasaw and Calhoun counties amid local protests and a Mississippi Railroad Commission denial recommendation. The Mobile & Ohio is under receivership and the branch opened in 1904.

Uncle of Dothan civic figure among Auburn alum
