Eighteen killed and 25 injured aboard the Dutch cruiser Zeven near Sumatra as a naval plane dropped a 100 pound bomb. Mutineers, who resisted surrender, signaled to continue, but the ship was forced to halt with a white cloth not shown and the crew fled in boats as fires broke out.

Davis a Geneva and Coffee counties official and Amer ican Legion leader was found guilty by directed verdict by U S Judge Charles B Kennamer for accepting a percentage commission in obtaining 3000 for Mrs Josephine Peterson widow of a World War casualty Mrs Peterson testified she paid 250 after garnishment of the 3000 and had already received 5009 from the government prior to applying for compensation The case arose from a 10 fee limit for officials filing compensation applications and may be reversed if the law requires.
Jimmy Nichols the one armed golfer stopped in Dothan en route to Miami to enter the International four ball matches and discussed a tentative April 1 exhibition at Dothan Country Club. He will then head to Pinehurst. Nichols arrived from Pensacola where he and C W Ruckle defeated H Burke and Tony Penns, with Burke and Penns losing one up on the 18th hole. Nichols shot a 71 for the round.
Congress voted a congressional Medal of Honor for Richmond Pearson Febson of Los Angeles, a former Alabama naval officer noted for action in the Spanish American War. They sent the measure to the White House after the Senate approved a House bill authorizing the decoration. Hob son risked his life June 3, 1898, by entering Santiago Harbor and sinking the Merrimac under heavy fire.
Harvey Yeomans 20 of nine miles south of Dothan Alabama reportedly burned from waist to feet and shoulders after a drinking party by a woods fire. He was found nude in Wash Colling’s bed and carried home. his condition labeled serious with possible death.
Montgomery Feb 10 AP The house and senate adopted a joint resolution by Sen Hildreth Greene calling for a sweeping investigation into the price of school textbooks with aim to save the state money on deposits and handling. A three senator four house committee would examine banks contracts records and all matters related to textbooks. The legislature also adopted a resolution praising the president elect for remarks on his Alabama trip and supported Muscle Shoals development as beneficial nationwide. A proposal to cut state salaries 25 percent from Oct 1 1930 was favorably reported by the house rules committee.
Deputy collector L A Carroll warns residents with income of 1000 or more in 1932 to file returns by March 15 opening offices in the post office building March 1. The office will aid taxpayers in completing forms and tax payments without penalty if done by March 15.
