False Debt Fears Crumble Over U S Financing
The Sacramento Bee argues that fears of national bankruptcy are misplaced. It notes the public debt on July 1 reached about 29 billion dollars, only 4 billion more than postwar levels, and highlights debt growth in World War I. It credits refinancing for lower interest payments and calls for employment-focused policies with big business cooperation.

The top rate drops from 4.5 to 4 cents per kilowatt hour for the first block to 40 kWh, with further reductions for higher usage. For 60 kWh monthly use, cost falls to about $2.10 plus service charge, a roughly 10 percent saving, rising to about 21 percent at 170 kWh.
