David Dollar aged 74, brother of Captain Robert Dollar of the Dollar Steamship Company, died Sunday night at Mercy hospital in North Bend Oregon from pneumonia after a brief illness. He was a Mendocino coast woodsman in Usal in youth and was married to the late Margaret Donohoe Dollar, sister of pioneer R E Donohoe. He had lumber interests in Idaho and Michigan and was not active in business for five years. Survived by sister Mrs William Proudfoot of Oakland and niece Mrs Jane Payne, among others.

Fireman’s Eye Injured at New Year Ball Fight
Harley Moore of Aldah fire department suffered a severe blow to the right eye during a dispute at the Firemen’s Ball on New Year’s Eve. Velkko Solnila of Redwood Valley was arrested on a battery charge after witnesses said Lonn ie attempted entry without a ticket and was removed by the door committee. South Coast Pioneer Laid To Rest In Fort Bragg
Private funeral services were held for 90 year old Mrs. M. K. Shibley, lifelong South Coast pioneer, at Fort Bragg. Born Margaret Elizabeth Maddox in Missouri on January 4, 1849, she married John Harvey Shibley in 1868, moved to California in 1874, and the couple settled in Point Arena. They later lived in Fort Bragg until 1910, then San Francisco after 1937. Surviving children include Mrs. O. B. Pitner, L. A. Shibley of San Francisco, and Mrs. B. F. Waldo of Ukiah, plus grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A six foot tide and heavy storm caused unprecedented coastal flooding along Mendocino County. High water peaked at 10 15 a m Thursday, swamping highways, washing away cabins and boat houses, and piling driftwood to a new coast high mark. Noyo and Caspar areas flooded, mill edges flooded, and logs blocked tracks while Ukiah recorded 1 10 inches of rain, bringing storm total to 2.04 inches and the seasonal total to 13.11 inches, with the Russian River near the Louis Hildreth ranch rising only slightly above normal.

California Sea Lion Rookeries Maintain Stable Birth Rates
A report by the State Fish and Game commission finds sea lion births roughly balance deaths along the California coast. Depredations are not as extensive as claimed and no immediate need to reduce numbers. Mendocino hosts Steller sea lions from Santa Cruz to Alaska. California sea lions occur south of the Farallon Islands. The population has stayed near 7,861 since 1938, with protection under current law. Breeding cows yield one pup yearly and about 25 percent die on the rookery by accident or drowning.

Three escapees from Talmage State hospital were captured by Sheriff Taylor Day of Lake County after two days on the run from Talmage to Scotts Valley.
