Hog Processing Tax Regulations Amended
A tax on hogs became effective November 5 1933 and critics urged shifts in responsibility. By November 1 1934 the rules defined First Domestic Processing as the initial act of preparing hog carcasses for distribution, making buyers meat markets and restaurants liable for tax payments and returns on PT Forms 4 for taxable months. Live weight at slaughter governs the tax unless undeterminable, then a 182 percent conversion factor applies. Records of all tax transactions must be kept for officer examination.
