T. J. Mulaney Dies. Dillon Pioneer Remembered

Thomas J. Mulaney, longtime Dillon resident and Beaverhead county businessman, died at his Rail Way avenue home about 3 o'clock Monday morning at age 82. Born in Batavia New York he moved to Dillon in 1882 and held roles from threshing contractor to sheriff and bank stockholder. He was known for acts of kindness and his enduring community involvement. Funeral services were held Thursday at Brundage funeral home with burial in Mountain View cemetery.

Gridders Awarded Letters by Faculty Meeting

Beaver football players received their varsity letters for the 1984 season at a special faculty meeting last Friday afternoon. Stray bullet kills Metals Bank official in Beaverhead county

Coroner James F. Phillips and Sheriff J A McCollum investigated the death of John L. Teal assistant cashier of Metals Bank and Trust in Butte found with a gunshot wound in the Wire Silver Beaverhead county. An inquest ruled death caused by a gunshot from an unknown party. A shot was heard nearby the day before Teal’s death as he rested by a log with his rifle nearby.

Mrs Edinger Returns From Capital Meet In Washington

Mrs Isaac Edinger of Divide Montana head of nursery schools reports a national conference in Washington D C and eastern visits. She notes parents seek training in child rearing and Montana has 17 FERA nursery schools with 15 in operation. The town receives Dillon’s first street car transformed into a lunch counter on South Idaho Street.

Victim Dies From Assault at Thompson Ranch

George Winters 65 died at Barrett hospital from injuries after being struck with a block of wood at the Thompson ranch near Dell on November 9. Jesse Moore fled the scene and faces first degree assault charges. murder may be filed with a winter term trial set to open December 3.

Two Die In Car Crash Near Armstead

A Ford coupe driven from Armstead to Dillon went off a highway two miles north of Armstead shortly after 5 P M Thursday killing Jack Ferguson 28 who was thrown from the car and instantly died and Fred Williams 43 who was also thrown from the machine died en route to Barrett Hospital Clark Dixon survived with minor injuries The car owned by S M Taylor of Lima was found demolished with flat front tires The crash may have been caused by a blowout Police and coroner investigations followed and inquests returned verdicts of Ferguson death by a broken neck and fractured skull and Williams death by internal injuries Funeral services for Williams were pending

Charity Ball Set for Saturday at City Hall

The annual charity ball at city hall Saturday evening, Nov. 24, will feature two or three orchestras and planned entertainment. Admission is 25 cents worth of foodstuff per person, with trade supplies to be delivered the night of the dance. Tickets are available at Dillon grocery stores and meat markets in exchange for the donation.

Beaverhead District Court to Convene December 8

Beaverhead county winter term of the district court will convene on December 8 with Judge Lyman H. Bennett presiding. The first docket item is State of Montana vs Samuel A. Hayden for the murder of John O Connor in the Centennial valley on April 29. County Attorney T E Gilbert prosecutes, John Collins defends. several civil cases also listed and jury summons mailed. The term may hear case against Jesse Moore in the death of George Winters.

Dil kn Rotary club hosted a musical evening at the Medlen hotel with chair Ralph McFadden. Former members attended and were welcomed by Dr W H Stephan. Mining District Vets to Convene in Dillon

The American Legion and Legion auxiliary hold a district convention in Dillon on Saturday December 1. Newly elected state commander and state officers plan official visits. The Butte drum and bugle corps and auxiliary drill team will attend. A business meeting is set for the afternoon followed by a banquet and dance.

Mrs Elizabeth D White widow of B F White former territorial governor of Montana and Dillon mayor died Tuesday afternoon in a Loma Linda California sanitarium She had been ill for years and leaves four children Emrys White Carolyn White and Mrs Ray Fager survive along with Ralph who died earlier Two brothers William Davis of Soda Springs Idaho and D N Davis of Portland also survive In Dillon friends mourn her passing
