EXPECT HEAVY SLAUGHTER OF LAMBS
Dallas reports indicate a large share of new crop lambs and fewer Texas yearlings this summer. National prices are expected to fall seasonally as grass-fat lambs rise. Early May prices for new-crop lambs were lower than a month prior and about 2.50 per 100 pounds below a year ago. Consumer demand weakness and low pelt prices cited as causes. Washington reports call the 1938 season among the best for early spring lamb production with western ewe bands in excellent condition.
