Former Dillon Woman Dies in Idaho
Marian Kennison Barnes 33, a former Dillon resident, died in Rupert Idaho after a brief pneumonia illness. Born January 3, 1905 in Dillon, she graduated from Dillon High School and married Merritt Barnes of Rupert. Survived by her mother, husband, daughter Dawn, two Dillon brothers Floyd and Kenneth, and four Dillon sisters Mildred Lyon Carrie Martinell Merle Smith Edith Osborne. Funeral services in Dillon were conducted by the Christian Science church with Eastern Star rites at the cemetery.

Train Wreck On Gilmore and Pittsburg Line After Bridge Fire
A bridge burned by unknown origin collapsed Monday afternoon under a three car train on the Gilmore and Pittsburg railroad at Horse Prairie creek. The wreck dumped a freight car and the tender into the four foot chasm. damage was $1,000. No serious injuries. Freight survived. engine across the gap. Wrecking crew worked Tuesday to repair bridge and track. bus and truck moved freight, mail, and passengers.

The Hartwig theatre safe was burglarized early Monday after 3 to 3:30 am entry through jammed doors. Investigators believe teamwork due to the heavy safe being moved to a landing and opened by knocking off the dial. Custodian Sam Cardinale found the opened safe around 7 am.

Dillon Students Earn Degrees at State University Commencement
Several Dillon students received degrees from the State University at Missoula Monday during the forty first commencement exercises. Degrees went to Paul A. Judge in zoology, Charles H. Crouse in journalism, Edison W. Kent with a bachelor of laws, and Tom Hartwig in pre medics. Crouse and Hartwig began school together in the first grade and despite double promotions and illness during their grade and high school they are graduating together.

Seventy Score Pass State Exams By Rural Students
Eleven rural seventh graders and seven eighth graders passed state examinations conducted by Miss Nell Doyle at the county courthouse on May 19 20. Top seventh grader Margaret Shanholtzer scored 92 followed by Sybil Shanholtzer 90. Eight grade leaders Alice Staudenmeyer 92 43 and Patricia Smyth 92 06. June Wiley placed third with 99 7. Numerous other rural pupils earned certificates for perfect nine month attendance and many named towns and schools are listed among those honored.

Farmers Picnic At Sand Coulee Planned By Beaverhead Union
Members of the Beaverhead Silver Bow Farmers Union and friends will meet next Wednesday at Sand Coulee on the lower Big Hole river near Glen for the annual picnic. County secretary Mrs. J. H. Keenan reports a full program of speaking eating and sports with addresses by A. W. Ricker editor of the Farmers Union Herald and A. R. Kinders field man for the Farmers Union Central Exchange and James Patton. Prizes will be awarded for events including tug of war races fat ladies and men races and more. Michael Lauterbach is furnishing a mutton for patbecized on the grounds. The committee in charge includes Mrs. J. H. Keenan and Michael.
