The Clerk of Court Norman Giles and numerous other county offices list Democratic and Republican candidates. Races include Clerk and Recorder Albert S. Baker, Sheriff Paul Temple, County Treasurer Bertie Mathews, County Attorney Leonard Schulz, and Coroner James C. Phillips among others.
George Opp, longtime justice of the peace for Dillon township, filed for reelection last week on the Republican ticket.
Zelda Stewart Lovell filed her petition Saturday for the Republican nomination for superintendent of schools. She is a graduate of the State Normal college and taught for a number of years in rural schools of the county and state.
James Elmer Selway a Trail Creek rancher filed his petition Tuesday seeking the Republican nomination for county commissioner. He is the third GOP candidate and is well known throughout Beaverhead County. He graduated from Beaverhead County High School.
Sylvester Meade filed his petition for the Republican nomination for county treasurer. A longtime resident, he previously worked with the Forest Service in this area.
A Republican candidate H C Bert McNinch filed for county commissioner joining Archie Henneberry as rivals. Democratic contenders Edgar B Rife the incumbent and Matt Kay also filed. McNinch a Dell rancher has lived in the county’s southern end for years.
The Railroad and Public Service commission passed a rule allowing homeowners to rent four rooms and still pay residential gas and electricity rates. Senator Burton K. Wheeler told constituents Roosevelt signed the Fort Peck power bill authorizing facilities at Fort Peck dam.
