College Graduation Activities Announced at Normal College
A full week of commencement activities unfolds at Montana State Normal College starting Thursday with graduation exercises for the training school The forty first annual Normal College commencement caps the week next Wednesday Junior prom is set for Saturday night in the college gym with George Melton Jr as general chairman The baccalaureate service will be Sunday at eleven in the college auditorium with President Sheldon E Davis delivering Silent Forces Students and faculty will dine at one Sunday Graduates will attend a commencement play Stage Door by Edna Ferber and Kaufman Monday night in the college auditorium The cast includes twenty four students A reception and tea for graduates is scheduled Tuesday afternoon at the president’s home Also Tuesday art graduates will display works in rooms 809 and side These events lead to a candle light Procession Tuesday night and informal dancing at Ree hall The annual commencement on Wednesday June 8 at 10 am will feature President A L Strand of State College Bozeman The spring quarter closes Friday at 4 pm with registration figures nearly identical to last year The cast of Stage Door features 24 players some returning from prior productions Attendees and families are invited Followed by continued note on page five

Platt Calf Wins Honors At 4 H Show
Members of the Beaverhead 4 H Livestock club showed nine Hereford and Angus calves at a baby beef show held for stockmen at a tri county meeting. Calves are raised for exhibition at the Northern Montana Fairs in Great Falls and the Junior Livestock show in Billings next fall. Reserve championship went to a calf raised by John J Hartwig. Prizes were awarded.

Graduation Exercises for Eighth Grade in Dillon Public Schools
Eighth grade graduates will receive diplomas at 2:30 this afternoon in the auditorium. Five pupils will give talks. The program includes invocation, benediction, class presentation, diploma awards, a dedication talk for the Bagley school, and a superintendent’s response. Music by the training school orchestra and vocal solos are planned, with several student ensembles performing.

Memorial Day Observed in Dillon with Simple Rites
Crowds visited Mountain View cemetery on Memorial Day to decorate graves. Dillon Boy Scouts placed a Pony Express Memorial flag on Charles Higgenbottom's grave, with American Legion members and scout leaders participating. Higgenbottom, born October 24, 1840, rode for the pony express and later worked as a stage driver and freighter through mining camps. World War I and other veterans were honored among numerous graves as residents enjoyed the holiday.

Beaverhead county voters must reregister by June 3 per 1937 law. By Tuesday afternoon only 2,857 had reregistered, compared with over 4,000 who voted in the last general election, indicating many have not yet updated registration at the county clerk and recorder's office.

Window break incident leads to 60 day sentence in justice court
Tip Oneal, transient, drew a 60 day sentence in justice court for malicious destruction of property. He allegedly broke a window at the Dell mercantile store with two companions, George Hagedon and Pat Vent, during a prior week.

Dell Rancher Dies After Month Long Illness
David D. McKnight 78 a Beaverhead county rancher and former county commissioner died last Thursday at Barrett hospital after about a month of illness. Born May 10 1860 in LaPrairie Illinois he arrived in Beaverhead with his family in 1883. He helped drive stage to Salmon City in 1886 87 and later ranched and raised stock. Survived by brother S M McKnight of Dell a niece Nellie McKnight of Dell and nephew Virgil A McKnight of Spokane Funeral services were held at the Masonic hall officiated by Rev H N Tragitt with interment at Mountain View cemetery.

Commencement Speakers Highlight Montana Class of 1938
The Dillon High class of 1938 heard F A Thomson of Butte urge Americans to preserve frontier spirit of mind and body in a commencement at the high school gym. Alumni and athletic awards were given to Arthur Christensen and Don Wheat, with scholarships to Floyd Pahnish and Frances Pickolick. Diplomas were conferred by R M Barrett as 60 plus graduates received diplomas. The article also notes a large Masonic assembly to be hosted in Dillon with multiple sessions and a parade planned for the week ahead.

Spotted Fever Fatality Reported in Beaverhead County
Lazar G. Hasin a 61 year old sheep herder died at Barrett hospital last Saturday from Rocky Mountain spotted fever contracted while herding for Ros Hensen in Medicine Lodge district. He had been ill at the hospital since the week prior marking the first fatality since 1936 amid several prior illness cases in the county.
