Louisiana Pasts and Pirates Through O'Reilly Galvez and Lafitte
Elmo Scott Watson recounts Louisiana rulers from O'Reilly's Spanish conquest to Galvez's aid to American independence and Claiborne's conflicts with Jean Lafitte. The piece ties colonial shifts, privateering, and the Barataria pirates to statehood and Gulf Coast history.
