Thirteen Young Ladies Escape Dangers At Selway Picnic
A large group of young ladies enjoyed a Thursday picnic at Selway's grave with Misses Jennie Bishop Katie Rife Priscilla Conger Davie Grannis Mable Willard Ola Cornell Nellie Black June Selway Sophia Dohmen Grace Johnson Myrtle Clark Emily Clark and Lyda Selway. They swam after hanging clothes on a Hickory limb and later found their clothing arranged in a wigwam. The summer normal class concluded with strong value and benefit, though instructors were heavy handed. The piece notes a broader Washington and Madrid context with Roosevelt era dialogue and Francoist actions, plus labor actions in New York and Detroit and a booth operator protest.
